Deep Dive

Why are the articles displayed so differently?

Since DeepNews does not own the rights to the articles, an article is displayed within a so-called i-frame, just as it is in a browser. The display is determined solely by the newspaper in which the article appeared.

On a separate note, we have decided not to offer the Reader view provided by Safari, as this would 'take away' from publishers' ad traffic.

How does DeepNews sort articles in Perspectives, Search, ...?

In the sorting, the novelty, the quality of an article (focus-ness, click-bait score, ...) and the similarity to the representing article with the same weight essentially go into it.

How does DeepNews determine the political bias of an article

Currently, DeepNews only defines the political bias for articles from the Anglo-American region. As a basis for this, we use the left/right assessments of 'allsides.com', an independent NGO.

Unfortunately, so far such a list is not reliably available for German sources.

Wikipedia: How does DeepNews find people appearing in an article?

DeepNews matches all the people, companies, and places appearing in an article to the current, language-matching Wikipedia.
